Common Types of Tomato Products
- Tomato Paste: A thick concentrate made by cooking down and straining tomato pulp, containing at least 25% tomato solids.
- Tomato Purée: A smooth, medium-concentration liquid made from strained tomatoes with about 9% minimum tomato solids.
- Tomato Sauce & Ketchup: Seasoned condiments or cooking bases cooked with salt, sugar, vinegar, and spices. Ketchup contains at least 12% tomato solids and 25% total solids.
- Canned & Crushed Tomatoes: Whole-peeled, diced, or crushed raw tomatoes preserved in cans, often packed within hours of harvest.
- Tomato Juice: Extracted liquid from ripe tomatoes that is pasteurized and bottled, holding at least 5% total solids.
- Dried & Powdered Tomatoes: Slices or dehydrated tomato pulp processed into flakes or fine powder for extended shelf life.
